This liver-supporting, low FODMAP smoothie is my daily go-to. Starting my day with this protein-packed blend has helped me lose and maintain weight while improving my liver health. With my BYOS (Build Your Own Smoothie) template, you can make your favorite smoothies at home!

Build Your Own Smoothie (BYOS)

Choose (1) of each to build your own smoothie!

  1. Protein options:

    • Plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, nonfat recommended for liver/gallbladder issues)

    • Collagen peptides protein

    • Organic Hemp Protein Powder - this vegan powder is an excellent option, packed with protein, iron, and calcium, delivering 290% of your daily iron, 20% of your calcium, and 100% of your potassium intake.

  2. Greens options:

    • Spinach - mild taste and texture

    • Kale - easy to digest for IBS sufferers when blended

  3. Chocolate:

  4. Fruit options (choose one to avoid excessive sugar):

    • (1) cup frozen blueberries (for taste)

    • (1) unripe banana if you have IBS otherwise a ripe banana is fine

    • (1) cup pineapple - low FODMAP, high in vitamin C

    • (1) cup strawberries - low FODMAP, low sugar

  5. Add-ins:

    • (2) ice cubes - essential for smooth texture - DO NOT forget to add to your smoothie

    • Dash of organic cinnamon (Ceylon is best - linked)

    • Spirulina (nutrient-rich but strong taste)

  6. Liquid options:

    • Add minimal liquid for a smoothie bar-style consistency

    • Coconut water - hydrating but not low FODMAP if you have IBS

    • Almond milk - flavorful but watch for almond sensitivity (I can’t drink this but the taste is amazing)

    • Carrot turmeric juice - love Trader Joe's brand

  7. Fat options:

    • For those dealing with liver and gallbladder health issues, it may be necessary to restrict fat intake

    • Walnuts - great for brain function

    • Pumpkin seeds - nutrient-dense

    • Sunflower seeds - anti-inflammatory

    • Brazil nuts - two provide your daily Selenium intake

  8. Blender:
