FODZYME: The Answer to Your FODMAP Intolerances
If you suffer from FODMAP sensitivities, you understand the challenges of eating without pain. I've been dealing with IBS and FODMAP issues for around eight years, and it has been truly debilitating at times. Some days, my symptoms were so severe that I couldn't even leave my home. I struggled to eat at restaurants or identify trigger foods at home. However, everything turned around about six months ago when I discovered FODZYME. This supplement completely transformed my life, providing much-needed relief from FODMAP-related digestive distress.
FODZYME is a powdered enzyme supplement that breaks down FODMAPs, making them easier to digest. FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols, which are types of short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that are poorly absorbed by the small intestine. FODMAP-intolerance can lead to symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation.
Even though a low-FODMAP diet is often effective in managing symptoms, it can be highly restrictive and have negative nutritional consequences. FODMAPs are in a ton of healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Plus, FODMAPs, like GOS and fructans, are rich in prebiotic fibers and support short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, which are byproducts of FODMAP fermentation and provide many health benefits.
FODZYME contains three enzymes that specifically target FODMAPs:
Fructan hydrolase: Breaks down fructans, which are found in foods like onions, wheat, and garlic.
This is their proprietary enzyme and the only one available that targets the broad spectrum of fructans found in everyday grains, fruits and vegetables.
Lactase: Breaks down lactose, which is found in dairy products.
Alpha-galactosidase: Breaks down galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), which are found in beans, lentils, and some vegetables.
FODZYME is taken by mixing it with food or by chewing it with the first bite of food. It is important to take FODZYME directly with your FODMAP-containing meal so the FODMAPs are broken down before they reach the gut bacteria in your colon, which is where FODMAPs cause the most trouble.
In peer-reviewed research, FODZYME has shown to effectively break down 90% of a 3g dose of fructan (the amount in about 6 cloves of garlic!). Plus, this research also showed that while FODZYME reduced the gas associated with fermentation of prebiotic-rich FODMAP foods, it still supported some production of SCFAs. This suggests an enzymatic approach allows for some benefits of prebiotic intake and may be more favorable to overall health than simply avoiding FODMAPs altogether.
FODZYME is a safe and effective way to help people with FODMAP-related digestive issues enjoy a wider variety of foods.
Here is some additional information about FODZYME:
It is gluten-free and lactose-free.
It is not recommended for people with allergies to maize.
It is important to talk to your doctor before taking FODZYME if you are taking any other medications.
For optimal results, it's recommended to mix the powder directly with your meals rather than using water, as water separates the enzymes from the FODMAP-containing food they need to come into contact with to break down.
To maintain the effectiveness of the enzymes, refrain from adding the powder to your cooking until it’s below 140*, as they can become deactivated at very high temperatures.
It does not break down fructose or polyols, found in:
Apple, Apricot, Avocado, Blackberries, Cauliflower, Celery, Cherries, Lychee, Mangoes, Mushrooms, Nectarine, Peach, Pear, Plum, Prune, Sauerkraut, Sweetcorn, and Sweet potato.
